| Back to current News | 17.04.2006 Web blog entry number twenty-two. Freya turned one the 14th of March and we celebrated her birthday in the Netherlands together with Oma, Opa and her uncle Mark plus family. There were also some neighbours dropping by. Freya had a bad cold for the first time in her life too, exactly on her birthday ofcourse. But not really any fever or anything. |

| Anyway, nothing really very bad, he thought that physiotherapy should get her on the right track again. One thing was a bit concerning which is the growth of her head. It has been slowly slowing down. Her head has a normal size, but usually the growth of the head is pretty consistent and Freya started out "big" and her head has been growing a little slower all the time. Now the doctor said that this could be because she first had to get her "normal" size which means from now on her head should grow consistenly or then there is a problem. Scary stuff. There has been more scary stuff lately, there was an article in the swedish newspaper about the device that monitored her vital signs during birth, called STAN, it seems that this device does not give an alarm on time and babies have died because of it or suffered oxygen deprivation and because of that brain damage. Which is scary because while she was hooked up to that machine during birth the midwives said Freya's heart was too monotonous, but since the device didn't give any alarm, they supposed everything was ok... Freya will get an MRI when she is about two years old. To do it now would be purposeless as we wouldn't be able to get the answers to our questions now because her brain is going through such big changes now. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||

22.01.2006 Web blog entry number twenty-one. The eye-specialist we saw said that the cross-eyedness might never really go away and that her left eye is totally fine, but her right eye has some cylinder error which might blurr her vision slightly in that eye, if it turns out to be a bad error it can be corrected by glasses later on when she's older. However both eyes are working and she is also using both eyes. The right eye turns inwards more than the left eye and this is also something that she could have an operation for later in life. For the infection that she has had in the right eye since birth we got some eye drops again that need to be applied six times a day. I contacted Mr. W. Emerson by email and he replied, apart from his thoughts he gave me some adresses of doctors in Danmark, Switserland and Germany who might be able to evaluate Freya and perhaps be able to help us. More on that later. |

14.01.2006 Web blog entry number twenty. Today Freya is exactly 10 months old and she got her first shoes. They are little pink sneakers from H&M. We thought it would be a good thing for her to have these as she can stand pretty well already, but we have such a slippery floor. So now she has some more "hold" on the floor. Needless to say they have been thoroughly analyzed and taste tested before use ;) She has a new game, "give the soother to mamma", in this game she gives me the soother and I have to pretend to put it into my mouth and make little sucking sounds, she thinks its hilarious. Its such a popular game she even wakes me up for it 3:00 in the morning... |

| Freya also had a fysiotherapy session today and this time the fysiotherapist brought a speech therapist with her. We didn't really learn anything new, the speech therapist agreed with me that it could be beneficial to teach Freya some basic sign language. Since Freya is not crying and makes this gagging sound when she wants something ( or puts her finger down her throat... ) it would be better if she had some signs for things she wants to tell, basic things, like "feed me". Anyway, she couldn't tell what could be Freya's "problem", all the babies that she knew had just slightly different problems and Freya doesn't fit the picture of certain conditions either. Like for example, she eats very well and has very fine motor skills with her hands. So, Freya remains a mystery. Or does she? Recently I came accross articles written by William Emerson, PhD. He talks about trauma's ( psychological trauma ) that can be obtained by traumatic birth, birth induction, c-section, being seperated from parents, painful incidents etc. And the strange thing is that Freya fits this picture really well, from the cross eyedness to the speech delay. Interesting hm? You can find articles written by him by searching in for example Google on the keywords, "birth trauma" and "William Emerson". It would be nice to see a doctor who is aware of these studies. No doctor that I have met ( or other medical specialist ) seems to be aware of the possibility of a psychological trauma. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
