| Back to current News | 28.06.2005 Web blog entry number nine. We just came back from the hospital, Freya had her heart control today because she has a little opening in her heart between the aorta and the vein that supplies blood to the lungs. This is normal during fetal state, even necesary, but after birth this should close within two weeks if not already at birth. In Freya's case this is still open, it was about 1mm, and now it has been reduced to about ½mm, the heart specialist said that this was so minor that it is negelectable. She will have one more control when she is about 1 year old, by then, the doctor asumes, it will already be non-existent because in the ultra sound the opening was not continuously visible. Nothing to worry about, she said. The other opening that was talked about during the previous check up, turned out to be a suspicion, and now when she checked, the suspicion turned out to be wrong. All in all, Freya's EKG was totally normal and her bloodpressure was fine also. This doctor explained to us that in cases in which this opening still exists sometimes it can cause disturbances in the blood circulation, this is why they also check the bloodpressure, but like I said, there was nothing out of the ordinary. I am starting to suspect that there never has been a problem with Freya other than birth trauma from the beginning. She started returning smiles somewhere last week, she has started to suck on her fingers, mostly the one you point with, and now she has a good sleeping-waking rythm, we wake up around 7:30, feeding time, then we snooze a little until about 9:00 then she plays while I eat some breafast and clean up a bit, |

then she feeds again around 10:00 or 10:30, she sleeps for about 30 minutes to an hour, then she plays until her next feeding time which is between 13:00 and 14:00 after which she sleeps until 16:00 or 17:00 ( 3 to 4 hours ), this is when daddy comes home, so then its time for another feeding and some daddy time and then depending on what happened during the rest of the day, meaning, a lot of excitement or not too much, she will sleep around 21:00 or 23:00, the more excitment, the less appetite for sleep. Then another feeding around 21:00 or 22:00 and then one more before the night, either 0:00 or 1:00. She has been able to keep this rythm even during the holidays. She has also started teething, a bottom front tooth has started pushing through the gum line, we bought her a Multi Soothe Teether , ours is pink and the picture has three flowers and a butterfly ;) |

14.05.2005 Web blog entry number eight. Yesterday we were at the neuvola's for the routine check up. This time she was quite happy with Freya's weight gain, she has grown in length too. She now weighs 4,6 kg and is 54,5 cm tall. No surprise, she has been eating very well, about 85-100 ml per feed! Next time we go there Freya will get her first vaccination from the neuvola program, against polio and whooping_cough amongst others. |

3.05.2005 Web blog entry number seven. I should explain something, when Freya was born doctors felt that Freya was a bit too sleepy. What we didn't know, until we got the medical papers from the hospital, was that the doctors had actually diagnosed this condition. They diagnosed Freya as hypotonic. I understand where they'd get this idea from, freya was so weak in the beginning, not feeding well, sleeping all the time etc. But this was clearly due to the birth trauma in my opinion and not some condition. Freya proved this already, there is nothing "floppy" about her, except when she sleeps, she sleeps quite deep, but that she's got from her daddy ;) Anyway, based on this diagnoses specialists want to follow up her condition all the time and, I promise you, they FIND things. Today we were in the hospital with Freya to be evaluated by a neurologist and a fysiotherapist, now, they both agreed that they couldn't actually find anything wrong with Freya, sure, she is not very strong in lifting her head yet, but she lifts her head and come on, she is only 1½ month old! The fysiotherapist showed me pictures from a book, from how it should be and how it will be in the future, and she is doing everything a good 2 month old is doing. Here comes the funny part, they admit that this is actually normal for her age, but because of the earlier suspicion of hypotonia it COULD BE possible that it is hypotonia related...seriously, this kind of stuff leaves me speechless. |

28.04.2005 Web blog entry number six. Today we had yet another neuvola visit, unfortunatly the neuvola was ill. We also had doctor time, fortunatly we could see her straight away, and the doctor was very pleased with Freya, she also agreed with the other specialists that Freya is not gaining weight very fast, but she said the slow weight gain might just be due to a fast metabolism, most importantly, she is gaining weight, she weighs 4,385 kg now and is 53,1 cm tall. The doctor said that Freya looked very healthy and alert! |
