A somewhat different format than usual, but then these are also different circumstances. I simply lack the time to update frequently, or the stamina...

The news, Freya had an epileptic attack about a month ago ( 26th of April ) and subsequently spend two weeks in the hospital, we didn't know exactly what was going on at the time, there were many things happening simultaniously. There were the epileptic attacks, there was the new epilepsy medicine and she got a ROTA virus all at the same time which added up to be a big giant mess and a lot of worries. To make the story short, we had a sleep EEG and it proved epilepsy, starting from a point in the left underside of her brain and then going all out. She had another MRI which showed no changes in the brain, which is good because it proves more or less that this is infact birth trauma and not some other illness. They are still looking at the MRI to see if they can find scar tissue in the area the attack originates from. The metabolism disease check also came up negative ( which was what we expected ).

The new medicine Ospolot ( sulthiam ) seems to be having a positive effect on Freya, everyone feels that Freya has aged a year and changed a lot. he is trying more sounds and seems to have gathered more strength. The doctor conducting the MRI said that Ospolot has this effect on 5 percent of the kids that start it because these kids are actually held back by the epilepy which occurs during sleep. These kids can't store new information well, as its when you slee that you learn most and of course, the interruped sleep is not healthy either. It could be that over time we will see big changes in Freya due to this discovery. We hope so.The 11th of June we will have another sleep EEG to see if an attack occurs again, to see if the medicine really works.

I promise a full update once we are in calmer sailing waters again, until then,

Live long and prosper
